Special Correspondent: Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, Murshida Jaman Beltu, wife of the late Shahiduzzaman Beltu — former Member of Parliament for Jhinaidah-4 (Kaliganj and part of the Sadar area), member of the BNP Executive Committee, and former senior vice president of Jhinaidah district BNP — who is seeking party nomination for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, held a courtesy meeting and exchange of views with journalist leaders including Awangzeb Kamal, convener of the Press Club Federation and president of Dhaka Press Club. The meeting took place on Monday afternoon at her residence. During the discussion, she shared her electoral vision and development plans with the journalists.
Murshida Jaman Beltu stated, “I am a hopeful candidate for BNP’s nomination in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. I hope the party’s Chairperson, the great leader Begum Khaleda Zia, and the Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will consider the ideals of my late husband Shahiduzzaman Beltu and grant me the party nomination. I have believed in BNP’s political ideals since my student life. I joined BNP in 1991, guided by my husband. Since then, I have faced many hardships to reach here. The people in my area love me, and if nominated, God willing, I will win.”
Also present at the meeting were Press Club Federation members and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh National News Club, Md. Azadur Rahman Basir, Md. Obaidul Rahman, Anisur Rahman, Rumana Akter, actor Manna, among others.
Mrs. Murshida Jaman said, “Shahiduzzaman Beltu did politics for the welfare of the people, not for personal gain. Today, that politics is being overshadowed by a trend filled with selfishness, hatred, and falsehood. There is a conspiracy to distort BNP’s true leadership and ideals. I call on everyone to stand against this conspiracy.”
She further added, “Those who spread confusion using BNP’s name today neither know nor understand Beltu’s ideals. They are trying to weaken the party from within, not from outside. The lack of leadership like Shahiduzzaman Beltu is pushing BNP toward uncertainty. I believe the main strengths of Shahiduzzaman Beltu’s politics were the love of the people, honest courage, and unwavering patriotism. His politics can be a guiding light for today’s younger generation.”
It is noteworthy that Alhaj M. Shahiduzzaman Beltu is a unique name in the political history of BNP in Kaliganj and the entire Jhinaidah-4 constituency. He first became a Member of Parliament in 1991 and was elected consecutively in four elections until 2001. During his tenure, Beltu served as President of Kaliganj Upazila BNP, Vice President of Jhinaidah District BNP, and remained a member of the party’s Central Executive Committee until his death. As a parliamentarian, he contributed to the development of schools, colleges, bridges, key roads, and various infrastructure projects in Jhinaidah’s Kaliganj Upazila.
