Staff Reporter:- After an urgent discussion meeting held on Friday, August 29, at the Bangladesh Central Press Club (B.C.P.C) office in Mirpur, Dhaka, a new mobile phone was handed over to the young artist Shamim from Jhenaidah as a gift.
This initiative was taken at the request of Sharmin Ara, Jhenaidah district correspondent of Daily Matrijagat, by Khan Selim Rahman, founder and president of the Bangladesh Central Press Club (B.C.P.C) and editor of the Daily Matrijagat , who is known for supporting human rights, social development, and young talent.
Shamim has been working in music and content creation for a long time. Since childhood, he performed songs and gradually gained popularity. However, due to financial constraints, he did not have a mobile phone, which limited his ability to record new songs and create videos.
Shamim said, “Today’s gift has opened a new horizon for me. I want to use this opportunity to do even better work.”
Khan Selim Rahman has long been active in supporting human rights, underprivileged artists, and young talents. He believes that every talent is a national asset, and it is society’s duty to help it flourish.
Attendees said, “Khan Selim Rahman is not only an organizer; he is a true humanitarian. Even small assistance can bring about great change.” The mobile gift event also included discussions about Shamim’s creative work, limitations, and potential.
Also present were Dhaka Press Club Secretary Md. Delwar Hossain, B.C.P.C Vice President and Editor & Publisher of the Daily Janjagaran Md. Shihab Uddin, Education Secretary and Associate Reporter of Daily Matrijagat Wares Ahmed Tapos, Joint General Secretary Sumon Khan, Joint General Secretary Jahangir Alam, Religious Affairs Secretary Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Sports Secretary Selim Ahmed Topu, along with journalists from various print and electronic media, cultural personalities, organizers, press club members, and well-wishers.
Humanitarian Khan Selim Rahman does not only support artists; he is also active in social work and poverty alleviation. If journalists face harassment or attacks, he personally supports them financially. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he distributed food and Eid supplies worth 10 lakh BDT in Bogura. In 2024, he provided aid to flood-affected people in Comilla and Feni using his own resources. During winter, he distributes warm clothes to the poor and helpless in Mirpur and nearby areas. Every Ramadan, he provides iftar supplies to thousands of underprivileged people.
The event of presenting a mobile phone to artist Shamim was not just personal assistance; it carried a humanitarian, social, and cultural message. Khan Selim Rahman’s example inspires confidence, enthusiasm, and creativity among the youth, playing a vital role in the country’s cultural and social development.
