Staff Correspondent: A colorful celebration was held in the heart of the capital, Dhaka, marking the anniversary of the Mirpur Reporters Club. The program featured an award ceremony and cultural performances attended by distinguished journalists, editors, social workers, and cultural personalities from across the country.
During the event, Khan Selim Rahman, a distinguished journalist, editor of the Daily Matrijagat, publisher and editor of Daily Bangladesh Crime Sangbad, and Founder President of the Bangladesh Central Press Club (B.C.P.C), was honored with a Special Honorary Crest in recognition of his remarkable contributions to journalism and humanitarian service.
The event was presided over by Abdullah Al Mamun, President of the Mirpur Reporters Club and Publisher and Editor of the Daily Praner Bangladesh. The executive committee members of the club, media editors, journalists, teachers, social workers, and renowned cultural figures were also present.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by the presentation of honorary crests, a discussion session, and vibrant cultural performances.
Speakers at the event praised Khan Selim Rahman, saying, “He is a dedicated journalist and a humanitarian personality. He has long been the voice of the underprivileged, standing firmly for truth and justice. His contributions to both journalism and social welfare are truly exemplary.”
They further added, “At a time when journalism faces many challenges, his tireless efforts to uphold the dignity of this profession serve as an inspiration for young journalists across the nation.”
Whenever Khan Selim Rahman receives news that any journalist has been attacked, falsely accused, or harassed, he takes immediate and impartial action, regardless of that journalist’s organization or affiliation. He mobilizes members of the Bangladesh Central Press Club (B.C.P.C) to protest collectively, organize press conferences and human chains, and even provides personal financial assistance to secure bail for journalists facing false cases.
Khan Selim Rahman is not only a journalist or an editor—he is a true humanitarian. In times of national crisis or disaster, he personally extends a helping hand to the distressed and vulnerable using his own resources.
In 2021, during the global COVID-19 pandemic, he distributed over 1 million BDT worth of food items, clothing, and cash among thousands of unemployed families in Bogura.
In 2022, he provided blankets to homeless people and street children in Mirpur, Bogura, and other districts during winter.
In 2023, on behalf of the Bangladesh Central Press Club (B.C.P.C), he distributed iftar packages during the holy month of Ramadan and blankets to the homeless in Mirpur and surrounding areas. He also personally distributed several lakh BDT worth of food and relief supplies among flood victims in Sunamganj.
In 2024, he extended humanitarian support to flood-affected families in Feni, Cumilla, and Noakhali, providing relief and food assistance worth 1 million BDT.
In 2025, during winter, he distributed 1,000 blankets among underprivileged and homeless people in Mirpur and nearby areas. During Ramadan, he provided iftar items to poor families and gifted a mobile phone to a young artist from Jhenaidah as encouragement.
Through these humanitarian initiatives, Khan Selim Rahman has become a silent companion of the suffering and a symbol of hope for the helpless.
Expressing his feelings upon receiving the special honor, Khan Selim Rahman said, “Receiving this honor from the Mirpur Reporters Club is a deeply inspiring moment for me. I dedicate this recognition to all those journalists who, with honesty and courage, continue to work for the welfare of society and the pursuit of truth.”
He further stated, “Journalism is both my passion and my profession. My mission in life is to work for the well-being of humanity. I will continue this struggle to uphold truth and justice through my pen until my last breath.”
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, the presentation of honorary crests, and a captivating cultural performance.
